Southeast Bank-The Financial Express-Policy Research Institute (SEBL-FE-PRI) Green Award Trust honored the entrepreneurs and organizations for their contribution towards environment-friendly business operation, sustainable community development and poverty reduction on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at a local hotel in Dhaka. The Award introduced in 2013, in presented every year.

The awardees were 8 (eight) in two different categories. In the category of Leadership in Sustainable Green Business and Operation, the awardees were (1) Yunusco (BD) Limited (2) AKH Eco Apparels Limited (3) SQ Birichina Ltd and (4) Snowtex Outerwear Limited. In the category of Leadership in Sustainable Community Development and Poverty Reduction, the winners of the Green Award were (1) Shaymol Bangla Krishi Khamar (2) Nature Conservation Management (NACOM) (3) Wave Foundation (4) SKS Foundation.

The program was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairman, Southeast Bank-The Financial Express-Policy Research Institute Green Award Trust. In his speech in the function, he briefly narrated the adverse impact of climate change throughout the world and specially in Bangladesh and highlighted the urgent need for protecting the environment for posterity. Financial institutions have a very important role to play in line with Government’s policy initiatives to promote sustainable development. Setting up the SEBL-FE-PRI Green Award Trust is a step towards that direction. He reiterated that the initiative of the SEBL-FE-PRI Green Award Trust would continue in future also to inspire the individuals and organizations to engage actively in saving the environment and pursuing sustainable development course.

In the function, Fazle Kabir, Chief Guest of the ceremony and Governor, Bangladesh Bank highly lauded the initiative of SEBL-FE-PRI Green Award Trust created by Southeast Bank for creating awareness for preservation of environment for the posterity. He also dwelton the adverse effect of climate change on our environment and highlighted the initiatives of the Government of Bangladesh to protect environment and promote sustainable development. He also referred to the various initiatives of the Bangladesh Bank for encouraging green financing and providing regulatory guidelines in this regard. He hoped the banking sector as a whole will follow the example set by this trust to promote sustainable development.

Alamgir Kabir FCA, Chairman, Southeast Bank PLC. also spoke in the function. In his speech, he traced the history of forming the trust by Southeast Bank to deliver in part its commitment to protect environment. He added that its formation was intended to create awareness in green business and protection of environment. A.H.M. Moazzem Hossain, Editor of The Financial Express and Independent Director, Southeast Bank PLC., highlighted the importance of Banks in promoting sustainable development. M Kamal Hossain, Managing Director (CC), Southeast Bank, delivered the address of welcome in the award giving ceremony.

Bank’s Directors, leading dignitaries, business personalities, eminent industrialists, elites of the city, valued clients, teachers, educationists and Bank’s senior officials were present in the function.

The colorful program ended with a vote of thanks by member Secretary of SEBL-FE-PRI Green Award Trust, a musical soiree and a dinner.
